The Marine Science Sailing Adventure on SF Bay returns Sat Nov 9, this time for younger kids! The Adventure last June was a terrific time, full of science and ecology and seamanship, and an opportunity to make new friends and welcome new kids to MVGATE. Our sold-out cruise was a magnificent day for kids and parents alike. Now it’s your turn!

EVENT TITLE: Oceanographer for a Day: A San Francisco Bay Marine Science Sailing Adventure

WHEN: Saturday Nov 9, from 1-4pm. Boarding at 12:45pm.

WHERE: On the 82-foot schooner Seaward, departing from the Bay Model Pier on the Sausalito waterfront.

WHO: MV GATE kids grades K-4. Friend or sibling welcome. Up to ten parent chaperons encouraged. (30 participants max)

ACTIVITIES: A unique educational experience for Mill Valley kids and parents! A three-hour voyage on an 82-foot sailing schooner on the Bay, focused on nature, oceanography, marine biology, and seamanship, a very hands-on experience — now for younger kids grades K-4! The program is built around direct participation in sailing the boat, plus 3 rotating learning stations during the voyage on such topics as Plankton Ecology and Analyzing the Environment. Content will be adapted for advanced learners, and we’ll divide the kids into sections by age to further customize content. We have the whole ship to ourselves.

WHAT TO WEAR: The Bay is unpredictable, so be ready for anything: sun, chill winds, even rain. Wear warm layers, sunscreen, practical safe shoes, even light gloves. If weather’s very bad we may reschedule, but it’s up to their Captain; they typically sail rain or shine.

TRAVEL: We’ll meet up at 12:40 pm at the Sausalito Call of the Sea mooring at the Bay Model Pier in Sausalito (www.callofthesea.org). Easy drop-off, on-site parking. Chaperons (up to ten for 30 kids) are welcome and desired.

PARENTS: Up to ten parents can join the voyage as chaperons. Drop off is at 12:40 at the latest, pick up at 4:00 at the dock. Nearby parent-storage options include Le Garage, a 5 min walk east, and the Sausalito waterfront.
