Lots of fun, easy to learn and an important introduction to computer coding for everyone.

Loved it. Very interesting and simple. The programs design kept my son and I interested for the hour with it simple build up and quick puzzles.

Great

I thought it was great. It was fun and engaging for the kids. I liked the game-like format.
12/11/2013 2:57 PM

In one hour you really caught my daughters attention. She was able to finish the tasks/games, learn something, and came home with a bunch of questions about programming.
12/11/2013 9:34 AM

Enjoyed it, my daughter enjoyed it as well. Opportunity to do 1 on 1 with my kid and learn more about how computers work.
12/11/2013 8:57 AM

Great event. My daughter was thoroughly enjoying herself. I like to see her enjoy problem solving. Its nice that no one is pretending that this isn’t the future for our kids.
12/11/2013 8:15 AM

I thought it was really fantastic. Introduction to the concepts of code using games they know and like made it fun. They want to do it again at home.
12/11/2013 6:54 AM

I loved it because it engaged my kid at his level doing something he loves (being on a computer) using an icon he knows (Angry birds) to actually learn something he can use the rest of his life, all while having fun and being around other kids. I also liked using experienced kids to mentor/coach the newer kids, all great from a learning, psychology, community point of view. The best program I’ve seen in my four years in MVSD.
12/11/2013 6:20 AM

Amazing! The community getting together for Comp Sci was heartening.
12/11/2013 5:30 AM

It exposed our kids to coding in a fun and non threading environment. The secession was well planned and organized. My son had a great 1st experience. We now need to have a follow up session to keep the connection and interest.

Great event.Hour of fun learning. Program was very effective in teaching foundational concepts.

So great for my boys — who love screen time and do computer stuff and are VERY computer literate — to actually understand a bit more about what it takes to create their own things. It’s a strength for our family so my son finished very quickly and was VERY interested in the continuing online component at home. Well done!

Thought it was a wonderful introduction to some of the logic behind code writing. My son was so into it! I think he would have kept going for hours if you let him!
12/10/2013 10:06 PM

We had so much fun
12/10/2013 9:57 PM

I liked bringing everyone together to share in this national event. I think the kids need this kind of exposure. Screen time should be a time for them to be engaged in creative effort, not just mindless gaming.
12/10/2013 9:55 PM

I loved the children working together to solve problems. The rooms were quiet, kids were engaged, and when they completed their “challenge” they felt a real sense of accomplishment.
12/10/2013 9:47 PM

Loved it. I was so excited to my daughters introduced to how computers work. It was a fun way to do it, too.
12/10/2013 8:58 PM

I enjoyed it.
12/10/2013 8:55 PM

Loved it! the kids were engaged and got an idea of what goes into programming.

Parents Suggestions for Improvement — again, all comments unedited, as of 12/12/13

I think the last event did not need any improvement. Thank you!

Personally, pizza dinner not necessary to get me to attend. Next time I would do check in and then begin. Adults and kids attention span are less by early evening. Enjoyed attending, thanks for offering the program
12/11/2013 8:57 AM

Thanks for putting this together. I loved that some of the kids from the math class who had done it were asked to be helpers.
12/11/2013 8:15 AM

It could benefit from 1.5 hours on the computer.
12/11/2013 6:54 AM

I’d like this to come to Park School and it be a regular offering. I’d even be willing to vollunteer for it or contribute toward it.

Good session .. Thanks for all of your efforts and leadership

The intro section was a little long, the kids were getting restless with the bullet points in the slides. The pizza and food was a GREAT touch, thanks, it means we could feed the kids (and my husband who had to leave work an hour early to get there). Other than the demand being too much for the guest server, which I would think someone at school should have known about, and a little confusion about which kids should go in which rooms, it was very smoothly run!! Lots of great “code coaches,” it was very awesome that you got some of the 4th/5th grade kids to help out. Also there were a couple people who signed up who are not current students at Old Mill; next time if that is not allowed, it should be stated on the registration page “For current Old Mill School students only…” or whatever.

It was a job well done! I don’t know if it was necessary to serve dinner. It was nice but the money could probably be spent elsewhere?
12/10/2013 10:06 PM

The best part was having other kids to help us. They were great. Loved the opportunity to learn it together parent/child.
12/10/2013 9:57 PM

I think it should start out with a little more structure. Participants could be told about the format right away. It would be great to dim the lights a little and let those great videos loop. That would catch everyone’s attention so that kids don’t wander off before things begin.
12/10/2013 9:55 PM

We love what you two are doing – thank you Jeff and John!!
12/10/2013 9:47 PM

Use school laptops, so no one has to deal with trying to sign in.
12/10/2013 8:58 PM

It was great and both of my Children had a wonderful time.
