Parent-Initiated Events: How-To

In past years, GATE has created terrific programs that were initiated by parents and delivered outside of the classroom.  We can do it again. UPDATE: We are doing it again!

Here’s a short example of the kinds of programs that GATE parents created during the 2009-10 school year:  2009-10 Out-of-Classroom Program [pdf] and here’s Ben’s complete presentation from the GATE Social: GATE History [1.9MB pdf]

And here are the programs that MV GATE parents are creating right now.

Working with us is not hard. To create a Parent-Initiated Event (PIE) of your own:

  1. learn the properties of successful PIEs [pdf]
  2. join the PIE Working Group simply by sending an email to mvgatepie at googlegroups dot com
  3. research & design your event
  4. complete the Parent-Initiated Event Proposal template [doc]
  5. mail your proposal to the PIE group and get their input & feedback
  6. revise proposal if necessary
  7. we’ll help you calendar and publicize the event, and help with ticketing & tech support & registration
  8. hold your event
  9. afterward, document it and solicit feedback via a blog post here where parents can comment

When you work with us you get the benefit of your fellow MVGATE parents’ collective experience and perspective; their peer review and generous help; access to hundreds of like-minded families in grades K-8; and our technology & communications platforms, which include full-featured registration & ticketing & payment processing.
