Research Day for middle-schoolers at Marine Mammal Center

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, today MVGATE took two dozen top middle-school science students to a special Research Discovery Day at the Marine Mammal Center.

Ordinarily offered to high school and college students, this program gave kids a 3-hour behind-the-scenes working visit with the MMC’s scientists and staff, including a comprehensive tour of their state-of-the-art animal hospital facility. We saw how MMC takes care of and feeds the animals, and worked at five research stations – skull morphology, telemetry, radiology, hematology and parasitology – to learn the work of practicing marine biologists.
