MV GATE’s mission in computer science learning is to bring a rich array of world-class programs to any interested school or child in Mill Valley, then to extend that model to other interested districts and communities.

MV GATE offers a growing range of computer science learning programs. “Hour of Code Night” is a delightful free evening program in which kids grades K-8 and their parents do their first hour of coding together. Hour of Code Night was a great success at Mill Valley’s Old Mill School, earning raves from parents and front page coverage in the Marin IJ. MV GATE is now extending the Hour of Code Night program to every elementary school in Mill Valley, as well as to a county-wide audience with the Marin County Office of Education. (see comp sci event calendar)
“CodeKids” for grades 1-5 is MV GATE’s follow-on program, continuing the Hour of Code Night experience as an after-school or evening program for any interested school or community. Upcoming programs will add increasingly advanced topics to let kids go as far as their interests and creative energies take them. Game design? A hunt for giant prime numbers? Softbots? We’re there!
It’s about starting early to learn a new way of thinking: one that builds a better mind and helps with any future career. Because software is devouring the world and transforming every single thing it touches.
